Fox Meadow Vineyards
Fox Meadow Vineyards
After enjoying time spent at Linden Vineyards on Saturday we decided to visit another nearby winery, Fox Meadow Vineyards. Fox Meadow Vineyards is one of Virginia’s newest wineries and is located in Linden and is situated amongst the beautiful Blue Ridge surroundings. This was also an opportunity to collect another sticker for our Passport to Virginia Wineries 2006 book; our goal remains getting as many stickers as we can this year.
Below is a short video taken of our trip to Fox Meadow Vineyards. Click on the play button to initiate video.
Quick Clip
Once inside we were greeted by Fox Meadow Vineyard's owner Dan Mortland who invited us over for a tasting. The tasting room was spacious and attractive, offering tall ceilings, hardwood floors, and numerous windows for viewing pleasures of the Blue Ridge and surrounding area.
We proceeded to the tasting bar and would be sampling four of Fox Meadow's wines: the 2002 Cabernet Franc, 2004 Syrah, 2005 Chardonnay and the 2005 Pinot Grigio. All the selections were nice and displayed the qualities you would expect from each. Niki really enjoyed the Pinot Grigio and described it as crisp and refreshing with citrus notes. During our tasting Dan was very informative and friendly, emphasizing quality in winemaking and told us how he got started in the business. He provided us with very good descriptions of the four wines tasted and informaton regarding future releases. It is always good to see someone’s dreams turn into reality, and this appears to be the start of something favorable for Virginia and Fox Meadow Vineyards.

Someone must have told Mother Nature to be kind to Dezel, because after our tasting the rain stopped and the sun arrived, accompanied by a gentle breeze. We decided to purchase a bottle of wine to pair with our lunch and enjoy the outdoor deck, sunny skies and nice surroundings. The wine we selected was the 2005 Chardonnay, which displayed decent fruit, with mild butter and toasty oak flavors following through to the finish. We had a nice time on the deck conversing in much banter and laughter with other wine enthusiasts who were visiting and enjoying the setting as we were.

In closing, this was our first time visiting Fox Meadow Vineyards, but certainly will not be our last. This is a new, up and coming winery with good vino, a charming facility, and breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and surrounding area. I strongly urge you Virginians to pack a picnic and visit!

Great video clip! I didn't realize they were so close to Linden. We'll have to go there soon.
Hello Winer,
If you get an early start Linden, Fox Meadow and Naked Mountain are within minutes of one another, and would make for a nice weekend tour. Picturesque views can be found at each, as well great wine! Look forward to hearing about your experience.
