Mediterranean Cellars visit
Mediterranean Cellars

Once inside you will find a spacious and attractive tasting area, along with warm hospitality waiting at the tasting bar. Our tasting was very pleasant with all the wines displaying the quality characteristics expected from the grape varieties from which they were produced. Our tasting associate and Katie, Mediterranean’s owner, were very amicable and informative regarding the winery and all the wines produced there.

Wines to note during our tasting are the 2004 Merlot, aged 12 months in French oak, displaying an ample amount of dark fruit, spice and pepper with smooth tannins. The 2004 Chambourcin Special Reserve, fermented in it’s own native yeast is a medium to full-bodied charmer with medium fruit, spiciness and a long peppery finish. The 2004 Romance, a crowd teaser and pleaser is a light bodied aromatic red blend displaying a nice but subtle Native American grape flavor. The 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon, an elegant wine, displayed a deep ruby color with dark fruit flavors and silky tannins. Moving onto the whites the 2004 Chardonnay ranked high in our book. Aged half-and-half in oak and stainless steel this Chardonnay’s fruit potential shows well, with flavors of apple and a refreshing mouth feel. The delicate amount of oak influence was just right and did not overwhelm the fruit like in some charred Chardonnays. Last but not least in our notes is the 2004 (Greek) Rechina. The Rechina is an unique food pairing wine with flavors of pine, mineral and earth; a direct influence of the winemakers Greek winemaking heritage and the special type of barrel used for aging.

Couple enjoying the majestic views at Mediterranean Cellars

The patio was quite busy as guest were enjoying tasteful wine, conversation and the picture perfect weather day. Katie, the gracious and hospitable owner came out and greeted everyone and made sure their experience at Mediterranean was one of enjoyment.
Gracious owner Katie and tasting associate

After much laughter and conversation with other friendly patrons it was nearing time to leave " This lovely slice of Heaven", as one lady enjoying a glass of the 2004 Romance precisely put it. With quality wine, majestic views, rolling hills and a friendly and hospitable staff, Mediterranean Cellars is a must visit on the Blue Ridge Wine Way Trail.
Happy Sipping!

Nice job. We visited few weeks back and had a nice time. It was raining so we had to stay indoors. The view is real nice. Maybe see you there sometime.
We went there earlier this season. While I don't remember any standouts from the tasting, I really loved the view from this winery and I took several really great photos. I have a feeling we're going to run into each other one of these weekends at tasting room somewhere! :-)
Lovely! We just moved to NVA from Germany and are eager to explore many of the state's vineyards...great blog!
Hello Anon user,
Sorry to hear it was raining when you all visited. All that means is that you have an excuse to go back on a nice day and enjoy those gorgeous views and tasty wines again!

Hello Stef,
It looks like we have been to a few of the same places does it not? We will all have to plan something sometime at one of the local wineries; a little Whole Foods and local wine can go a long way on a nice day.
Mmmmm… Let’s see if you have already visited the next winery I’m about to post (lol).
Happy Sipping!

Hello Anon user,
Welcome to Northern Virginia; I’m fairly new here myself, but as you can see enjoying wine country.
Would love to talk about the German Riesling’s and Eiswein’s one-day with you. Thanks for reading and for the kind comment. Do drop me an email when you all get out to wine country, perhaps we could tag up.
Happy Sipping!

Hi Dezel-
enjoying a nice Riesling as I type from the MittelRhein area I picked up in late May. Crisp and light in this heat!
I will definately drop you a line once we start exploring the local vineyards; in the meantime I'll keep enjoying your blog.
Hi MittelRhein,
That is a bet, perhaps you can assist me with some of those German wine labels (lol). Riesling sounds wonderful this time of month. I have a few selections from the Finger Lakes and you have just encouraged me to open a bottle! Thanks :)
Happy Sipping!
