Tarara Winery : Sounds of Summer Concert Series

After 48 hours of rain and wind, compliments of Ernesto, I was almost ready to start singing the children’s nursery rhyme, “Rain, rain, go away, come again some other day”. I do believe Mother Nature heard Dezel’s plea for nice weather because Saturday provided a nice evening as we headed to one of our favorite places, Tarara Winery, for another one of their enjoyable Sounds of Summer concerts.

Tarara Winery

There are only three concerts left in the Sounds of Summer concert series and I strongly urge readers to mark their calendars and enjoy one, if not all of the remaining shows. We have been to several concerts this year and they all have been very pleasant. The concerts are held from 6pm to 9:30pm every Saturday until September 30th. They are family friendly and the fee for adults is $10 and kids get in free. Your entry fee covers a wine tasting of up to five wines of your choice including the Reserve wines.

We were joined by fellow wine bloggers Paul and Warren of Virginia Wine Time, and their friends David and Michael, who are also fellow wine enthusiasts. To simplify matters we let Red Hot & Blue do our cooking and brought along BBQ chicken, pork, ribs, baked beans, potato salad and yummy banana pudding. Our friends also brought several different cheeses, spiced chicken, Cajun muffaletta sandwiches, veggies, spreads, dark chocolate, fresh fruits and almonds.

As always, we had the pleasure of conversing with John Bellncula, Tarara’s Wine Sales Manager who is always out greeting people and making everyone feel at home. He informed us of the upcoming Great Grape Wine Festival on September 23rd, and hinted at some nice improvements to the tasting room for the Fall season when festivities move indoors. Tarara is always a step ahead in coming up with ways to make the customers experience more enjoyable. Be sure to check their events calendar as there will be fun events scheduled throughout the remainder of the year.

After much delightful chatter we decided to do our tasting. Tarara Wine Associate, Keri hosted our tasting and was kind enough to go through all the wines on the tasting sheet, including the reserve wines. During our tasting Keri was very friendly and informative and we all thoroughly enjoyed our Tarara tasting experience with her.

Wine enthusiast enjoying food and vino!

After some conversation we decided to play the match game, and marry off our delicious food selections with some of Tarara’s tasty wines. Our BBQ selections begged for red wine, as the other food selections, thus we paired them accordingly with the Meritage 2003 and Cabernet Franc 2004. As with all wine dinners, it is only appropriate to have a sweet ending, and that is where the Charval 2004, a Chardonnay and Seyval Blanc blend came in handy. Blissful matrimony were both the full bodied red wines when paired with our BBQ dinners; the dark chocolate and the cocoa based cheese also paired particularly well with both red wine selections.

Happy couple enjoying the lovely evening at Tarara Winery

The smooth and welcoming jazzy sounds provided by Chicago native Tyris, entertained us fully throughout the evening. After much food, fun, laughter, conversation and Tarara’s award winning wines it was nearing time to close the curtains on a very charming night. With summer fading I encourage readers to attend one of the remaining three concerts at Tarara Winery and enjoy some of their wines.

When you decide to visit Tarara tell them you read about them on Virginia Vine Spot!

Happy Sipping!

I'm glad the weather cleared up. You guys brought quite a spread! That food sounds so good! I liked the music also. I went to the Tyris website and listened for a bit. I like the new merchandise too.

Hello Anali,

Thanks for all your kind words. The music was very nice, and the food and company great. Glad you enjoyed the artist page. I have some walking to do this week to burn the calories off however (lol).

I sported one of my vinespot shirts to a wine festival on Monday, but as luck would have it I cannot find my camera. So I have no visuals sporting my shirt for the 1st time, and I may have to buy another camera if it does not turn up; perhaps my cat will pull it out of hiding tomorrow.

Other than that life is peachy and the sipping still happy; how was your Labor Day Holiday?

Happy Sipping!

Hello Paul and Warren,

Great fun indeed, let the other Dynamic Duo know that I’m really waiting on that Podcast (hehe).

Both reds were right on the money with our food selections, and I think they will make excellent fireplace sippers in the upcoming cooler months.

Have a wonderful week and talk to you guys soon.

Happy Sipping!

Hello JC,

Yes, 3 and counting so I hope you make it before series end. Like last year however, I’m sure there will be many indoor events and concerts to enjoy with a nice satiating Merlot or Cabernet in hand when the cooler temperatures arrive.

Let me know when you decide to go, I might be there that same day!

Happy Sipping!

Hi Dezel:

Great writing and pictures as always. Tarara sounds like a very nice winery, both you and P&W have both wrote about them a number of times now.
Megan and I definitely have to plan an outing with you all sometime soon.
See ya

Hello John,

That would be great, I have such a great time with the Dynamic Duo; they have just as much character and personality as the wines we love! If summer runs out on us we can always find a fireplace and a nice sipper at one of Virginias many fine wineries. Hope you and Megan had a wonderful Labor Day Holiday.

Happy Sipping!
