Quick Sip: Faust Napa Valley 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon

Hello Friends,

Today’s Quick Sip is the Faust Napa Valley 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon. The Faust label is the creation of Chilean born Agustin Huneeus, who has been in the wine industry his entire professional career; starting in 1960 as Chief Executive Officer of well-known Concha y Toro. Along with his wife Valerie, Agustin founded Quintessa in the Rutherford District of Napa Valley in 1990. Where Quintessa specializes in one single-vineyard, estate-grown Meritage blend each year; Faust is a tribute to Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Fruit for Faust is sourced from Augustin’s family vineyards in Rutherford and Coombsville, the valley’s newest appellation (est. 2011), as well as other sites in Yountville, Mount Veeeder, St. Helena, and Rutherford. The 2011 Faust endured a challenging growing season and is both approachable and satisfying. It is a very nice bottle of wine to enjoy over dinner with a table of friends. Faust Napa Valley 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon

Review: Faust Napa Valley 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $50): Deep ruby in color, inviting scents of dark cherry, black currant and a peppery spice greet the nose with undertones of toasty cedar, black olive and notes of dried herb. Medium-to-full in body with a seamless texture and fine tannins, harmonious acidity gives lift to ripe fruit flavors carrying through to the medium-long, mineral-accented finish. This wine is well-balanced and ready to drink now; but should also do interesting things in the bottle over the next several years. Region: Napa Valley, California. (Other info: ABV 14.2%, Composition: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 1% Malbec, 1% Cabernet Franc, 19 months in 100% French oak – 30% new, cork enclosure.) 90 Points. This bottle of wine would pair well with lamb chops.
