By the Glass: Iron Bridge Wine Company
Hello Friends,
After a splendid weekend spent winery hopping on the Monticello wine trail in Charlottesville, Virginia, I paid a visit to the Iron Bridge Wine Company in historic downtown Warrenton for an early dinner. I’ve heard many very positive reviews from friends on Face-book and Twitter about the restaurant, so I was eager to stop in for a bite and a sip.
The Iron Bridge Wine Company can be divided up four different ways: a restaurant, a wine bar, a wine shop, and a self-service Enoteca wine lounge. Once inside, the interior is spacious with a relaxed and causal atmosphere and a lot of character. Seating options range from comfortable and cozy spots for two or upstairs seating that overlooks the wine bar, to relaxing on the outdoor deck or grabbing a window seat and checking out the street scene.
My visit was during the restaurant’s transition period from lunch to dinner (which starts at 5pm), so I ordered from the “In Between Menu.” The cuisine is contemporary American served tapas style, but the portions are more than filling – and I’m by no means a petite eater. The staff was warm and friendly and very attentive during my visit. Some of the dishes we ordered: the Cranberry Salad, Gazpacho Soup, Lobster Mac N Cheese, Bacon Infused Angus burger, and a Chocolate – Pistachio Bread-pudding, were prepared and / or cooked to perfection. The food was delicious and prices were fairly reasonable. I plan on visiting for dinner in the near future as the Shrimp & Grits, Roasted New Zealand Lamb Chops, and Grilled Angus Beef Meatloaf caught my eye.
As a wine bar / wine shop, Iron Bridge specializes in stocking small-vineyard, limited production wines that you won’t find at every other wine shop or your local grocer. Options for wine range from using the self-service Enomatic dispensers, ordering off the wine list, or purchasing a bottle right off the shelf to enjoy with lunch or dinner. If you opt to buy a bottle and take it home with you a 25% discount is applied.
The Iron Bridge Wine Company makes this week’s “By the Glass” feature because of their commitment to support and carry locally grown seasonal foods and 100% Virginia grown wines. There is currently a Virginia wine flight available and several Virginia wines on the wine list and Enomatic dispensers that can be enjoyed by the glass. The Iron Bridge Wine Company also has a Columbia, MD store, which I hope is just as kind to the local food and wine scene in Maryland. If you have not visited Iron Bridge yet and this post has piqued your interest in doing so, please let the kind folks at Iron Bridge know you read about them here at Dezel’s My Vine Spot wine blog. If you are a regular, send me your favorite food and wine pairing so I can try it out during my next visit. Lastly, be sure to check their website for daily food and wine specials.
