Quick Sip: Tenshen 2013 Red Wine

Hello Friends,

Today’s Quick Sip is the 2013 Tenshen red blend from California’s Santa Barbara County. Tenshen is a collaborative effort between winemakers Joey Tensley of Tensley Wines and Alex Guarachi of Guarachi Family Wines. The label’s name [Tenshen] is a play on words, as both Joey and Alex pursue what they believe is the most elusive characteristic of great wine – “Tension.” Their partnership grew out of a message inside a fortune cookie of all things. It read “Ideas you believe are absurd, ultimately lead to success!” This bottle represents the duo’s very first vintage. It is a solid bottle of wine for everyday dining and enjoyment that is quite satisfying. You can find it at Cork-Exclusive for the special price of $24.99 (with free shipping on any order). Review: Tenshen 2013 Red Wine (SRP $36): This deeply colored, robust blend from Santa Barbara County is composed of Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, and Merlot. Brooding dark fruit aromas fill the nose with sweet black cherry and ripe plum flavors next to dried blueberries, licorice, spicy cedar, tar, and trailing notes of violets. It’s rich, extracted, and expansive in the mouth, with moderate tannins, good depth, and flavors that steadily build through the lasting finish. A hearty meal with bold flavors calls for this bottle. It is a wine that will more than satisfy your dinner-party guests without breaking the piggy bank. Approximately 3,500 cases of this wine were produced. Region: Santa Barbara, California. (Other info: ABV 15.5, 10 months in 20% new oak, cork enclosure). 89 Points.
