Quick Sip: Tenuta di Arceno 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva
Today’s Quick Sip is the Tenuta di Arceno 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva. Chianti is a well-known wine-growing area in central Italy’s Tuscany region. The area produces blended wines that are made from at least 75% Sangiovese. These blends are typically easy-drinking, fruit-forward, and food-friendly. Chianti Classico ‘Riserva’ wines are aged for two years in cask and three months in bottle before release. The producer, Tenuta di Arceno, is a historical winery that is situated near the medieval village of San Gusme. This example is fresh, fruity and versatile on the table. It is a great dinner companion and can be found at Cork-Exclusive for the special price of $20 (with free shipping on any order). Review: Tenuta di Arceno 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva (SRP $30): A brilliant ruby-purple in color, this Chianti Classico Riserva contains 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot. Its inviting, perfume-scented nose offers violets, rose petals and sweet black cherries with a dash of vanilla bean and baking spice. The palate is well-balanced and fresh with flavors of tart cherry fruit, black raspberry, brown spice, and delicate mineral tones. The wine’s appealing streamlined mouth-feel and juicy acidity makes it an excellent choice for the dinner table – think spaghetti and meatballs, pizza, vegetable lasagna or poultry dishes. I enjoyed this wine on its own and with a tasty rotisserie chicken dinner. Drink now. Region: Tuscany, Italy. (Other info: ABV 14.3%, cork enclosure). 87 Points.
