Quick Sip: Bonneau 2008 Hyde Cabernet Sauvignon

Hello Friends,

I recently joined the #tvtuesdaylive wine crew for another fun-filled episode of Cellars of Sonoma TV Tuesday Live. For this episode, proprietor and host Scott Jordan welcomed special guest winemaker John Bambury of Bonneau Wines. Bonneau Winery is a small family-owned grower and wine producer in Sonoma’s Los Carneros appellation. Their estate site, Catherine's Vineyard, is certified sustainable and planted to Chardonnay – a grape variety the producer is well known for. For red wines, Bonneau sources fruit from some of the top vineyards in Sonoma County and Napa Valley.

Bonneau 2008 Hyde Cabernet Sauvignon

The Bonneau 2008 Los Carneros Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $75, COS Club Price $56.25) comes from Hyde Vineyard – a recognizable name and reputable grower that many top name California producers source fruit from. The Los Carneros AVA (American Viticulture Area) includes parts of both Sonoma and Napa counties; Hyde Vineyard resides on the Napa Valley side. The 2008 Los Carneros Cabernet Sauvignon displays a deep ruby/purple color with inviting and complex aromas of black cherry, blackberry, plum, cedar, anise and spicy nuances. The palate is round and smooth with a juicy entry, velvety texture, and supple tannins ending in a pleasant lingering finish. I enjoyed this Cabernet both on its own and with a grilled lamb chop dinner the following day. According to Cellars of Sonoma, less than 60 cases of the 2008 vintage is left and after the 2010 vintage John will no longer make this particular [Hyde Vineyard] Cabernet Sauvignon. Instead, John will source Cabernet fruit from Rutherford (an AVA located in Napa Valley that's well-known for its Cabernet Sauvignon wines), which should kick-off with the 2012 vintage. In closing, I encourage readers [Chardonnay lovers in particular] to get to know John Bambury and his small-lot wines. Use the links below to learn more about Cellars of Sonoma and Bonneau Wines. Cheers!
