2011 Amancaya Gran Reserva from Bodegas Caro. This is an Argentinian blend composed of 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. Bodegas Caro, established in 1998, is a joint effort between distinguished wine families, Domaines Barons de Rotschild (Lafite) and the Catena family. The union marries two deeply rooted wine cultures and two noble grape varieties, delivering a rich and satisfying blend that won’t break the piggy bank. Review: Bodegas Caro 2011 Amancaya Gran Reserva (SRP $20):
This deep ruby-purple colored blend of 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon
shows inviting aromas of blackberry, blueberry, and cassis with a faint streak of eucalyptus
and subtle touches of violet and sweet spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied
with a mouth-filling richness that is led by generous dark berry fruit flavors
with enough acidity to support the ripeness. The wine ends in a fruit-driven, medium-length
finish that is laced by accents of cocoa powder. Overall, a delicious wine that
offers good QPR (Quality-Price Ratio) that is just as good on its own as it is
