Quick Sip: Brassfield Estate Winery 2012 Eruption
Today’s Quick Sip is the 2012 Eruption from Brassfield
Estate Winery. Brassfield Estate Winery is located in the western section of
Lake County's High Valley appellation. This red blend was produced from one of the
winery’s estate vineyards, Volcanic Ridge, which is an 85-acre site that sits
at 1900 – 2200 ft. elevation and is solely devoted to red wine grape varieties.
The site was formed by hundreds of eruptions from nearby and now extinct
Round Mountain Volcano. Its well-drained, rocky, volcanic soils allow the
vines to struggle, resulting in highly-concentrated fruit. The 2012 Eruption was made from
the very capable hands of David Ramey and delivers quality along with
affordability. For further information and where you can find this wine (for under the SRP and with

Review: Brassfield Estate Winery 2012 Eruption (SRP $21): A beautiful deep purple in color, this blend of Syrah, Malbec, Mourvedre and Petite Sirah exhibits blue and purple fruit aromas and flavors, nicely interwoven with mocha spice, delicate dried herbs, and a dusting of pepper. On the palate, it is full-bodied with ripe fruit flavors that are supported by fine tannins and well-balanced acidity. Expansive and smooth, this wine is light on its feet with a nice lingering finish. A fine bottle for the table that is both affordable and satisfying. I enjoyed it on its own and with baby back ribs. Region: Lake County, California. (Other info: ABV 14.7%, native yeast fermentation, cork enclosure). 89 Points,
