Quick Sip: Petito Split Rock Vineyard 2008 Pinot Noir
Today’s Quick Sip is Petito’s Split Rock Vineyard 2008 Pinot Noir from California’s Sonoma Coast appellation. This wine is a collaborative effort between winemakers Thomas Petito (the art side) and Chris Nelson (the science side). Aptly named, Split Rock's rocky soils and the cooling influence of the Petaluma Gap combine to consistently produce very good Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit. Over the past few years, I have enjoyed several other wines sourced from this site. I can tell you from experience, that you generally get what you pay for when it comes to Pinot Noir. It is not the easiest grape to grow or produce and it is very picky about where it will thrive. Moreover, Pinot tends to be a low-yielding grape variety which leaves less juice to bottle for consumers like you and me. At the Cork-Exclusive special price of $19.99 (with free shipping on any order), this Pinot Noir which has an SRP of $50 over-delivers on value and quality. Review: Petito Split Rock Vineyard 2008 Pinot Noir (SRP $50): This Pinot Noir strikes a fine balance between freshness and ripeness, exhibiting rich aromas and flavors of sweet black cherries, wild berry, and cherry-cola with baked pie crust, a dash of spice, and a hint of toasty oak. On the palate, it is well-proportioned with a velvety texture and good depth that is enlivened by firm acidity, ending in a medium-long, persistent finish. This wine is drinking very well right now, so stock up, share, and enjoy! Approximately 150 cases of this wine were produced. Region: Sonoma Coast, California. (Other info: ABV 14.1%, cork enclosure.) 91 Points.
