Quick Sip: Chateau Rollan De By Cru Bourgeois Medoc 2010 Bordeaux
Today’s Quick Sip is the 2010 Chateau Rollan De By Cru Bourgeois from the Medoc region of Bordeaux, France. Bordeaux is arguably the world’s most famous wine region -- known particularly for high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot-based wines. One of the biggest misconceptions about Bordeaux wines is that they are all on the expensive side. However, outside of the region’s top-tier and more pricey classified growths, you can find a significant number of value-priced, good-quality wines that are enjoyable upon release and capable of improving with age. This bottle is a very good example of drinking well without breaking the piggy bank. It is reasonably priced, especially at the $18.99 Cork Exclusive price (with free shipping on any order), and is a wonderful wine to share with friends at the dinner table. Review: Chateau Rollan De By Cru Bourgeois Medoc 2010 Bordeaux (SRP $28): Composed of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Petit Verdot, this deeply colored wine offers a fragrant, appealing nose of sweet plum, black cherry, and anise intermixed with fresh coffee grounds, rose petals, and underlying notes of spicy cedar. On the palate, the wine is nicely textured with a pleasant lift of acidity. The flavors are deep, fresh, and dark berried, with a notable touch of grippiness, leading to a medium-long, mineral-tinged finish. Overall, an attractive, reasonably-priced Bordeaux that is well-suited for the dinner table. I enjoyed it on its own and with pepper-crusted pork tenderloin. Other food options to consider are lamb, venison, and fillet of beef. I recommend grabbing a couple of bottles for now and later – as this one should develop nicely over the next few years. Region: Medoc, Bordeaux, France. (Other info: 14% cork enclosure). 90 Points.
