Stadium Sip: Fabbioli Cellars Fratelli 2005
With the Redskins playing below expectations, I almost forgot this stadium sip, but here it is. This wine actually made it on a previous Stadium Sip in 2006, but it was so nice I’m doing it twice – plus it gives me a chance to briefly talk about the Chambourcin grape variety, which is a popular French /American hybrid variety here in Virginia.
The wine I’m talking about, the Fabbioli Cellars Fratelli 2005, was what I enjoyed at the Redkskin’s final preseason game during the tailgate party. Thus, even though the Redskins lost, the ‘Red Wines’ did not. Well, enough pun, let’s talk about what we have here.
Fabbioli Cellars Fratelli 2005
The Fratelli 2005 is an easy-drinking Chambourcin based wine that has a smooth palate with red fruit, earthy and herbal aromas and similar flavors. Chambourcin lends itself to nicely colored ruby wines, and this wine falls in that category. It is light-to-medium in body with good balance and pairs well with red sauce dishes, barbeque, pork, aperitifs, and even beef dishes. I know it is a little way off, but consider this wine as one of your selections for Thanksgiving dinner.
For those seeking this wine out, be sure to note that after the 2005 vintage, Fabbioli Cellars only makes a 2006 Chambourcin label (not Fratelli). If you do find any more of the 2005’s, these are ready to drink now and not meant for extended aging. Pop the cork and enjoy these now, friends!
