Quick Sip: 2008 Anghel
Today’s “Quick Sip” is the 2008 Anghel; a Bordeaux-style blend from award-winning winemaker Jason Burrus. Jason is the chief winemaker at Rappahannock Cellars and this is the first vintage and wine under his private label. The label’s focus is on crafting high-quality, limited production Virginia-grown wines that are sourced from some of the state’s top vineyards. The 2008 Anghel is a blend of 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Petit Verdot. The Cabernet Franc was sourced from Willow Croft Farm Vineyard in Loudoun County and the Petit Verdot comes from Two Principals Vineyard in Fauquier County . Only four barrels (100 cases) of the 2008 Anghel were produced.
In the glass, the wine displays an attractive dark garnet color; a key characteristic of Petit Verdot. The swirl and sniff offers an inviting chorus of dark cherry, raspberry, sweet plum, and soft mocha aromas with hints of violets. The palate is ripe, smooth, and mouth-coating, with medium-full tannins, moderate acidity, and a slightly drying, yet lingering and satisfying finish. The 2008 Anghel retails for $35, has a real cork enclosure, and clocks in at 13.5% ABV. This wine has the potential to develop nicely over time with proper cellaring and patience. Enjoy this wine with filet of beef and other red meat dishes. Use the links below for purchase information and to find out more about Anghel Wine. Have a question about this post, friends?
