Quick Sip: Joseph Carr Napa Valley 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon
Today’s Quick Sip is the 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Joseph Carr. After serving ten years as a world-class sommelier and another decade as an international industry executive, Mr. Carr founded his eponymously named, family-owned wine company in 2005. His consulting winemaker, Aaron Pott, joined the team in 2010 and was named one of Food and Wine magazine's ‘Winemakers of the Year’ in 2012. Having some familiarity with the Joseph Carr portfolio, I can tell you that the wines are approachable young, relatively fruit-forward, and affordable. You can find the 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon at Cork-Exclusive for the special price of $18.99 with free shipping on any order. With spring and summertime grilling on the horizon, this is a nice, crowd-pleasing wine to have on hand. For further information and where you can find it, please see my tasting notes below.

Review: Joseph Carr Napa Valley 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon (SRP $24): Dark ruby color with medium body, this Cabernet Sauvignon presents aromas and flavors suggestive of black cherries, blackberry preserve, and roasted plum along with subtle notes of bittersweet cocoa nibs and sweet vanilla toast. On the palate, it is smooth throughout with supple texture and balanced acidity, ending with a medium-length, mellow finish. Overall, a straight-forward yet enjoyable, fruit-forward Cabernet that’s ideal for matching with a wide variety of foods including grilled burgers, baby back ribs, and vegetable lasagna. Region: Napa Valley, California. (Other info: ABV 14.1%, 4% Merlot added, aged in a blend of 75% French and 25% American oak barrels, cork enclosure). 87 Points.
