Wines of Virginia at Trummers On Main
Hello Friends,Trummers On Main is a relatively new upscale restaurant in Clifton, VA that specializes in contemporary American cuisine. Trummers, as they are more commonly referred to, also has a large and lovely wine cellar that is stocked with thousands of hand-picked food friendly wines from all over the world. The wine cellar and wine list is overseen by Sommelier Tyler Packwood, formerly of the Inn at Little Washington.
Chef Clayton Miller paired sliced [Virginia] ham and warm bread (made in-house w/ a side of soft butter) with the wines – a simple, yet delicious meal. I found the Surryano (play on Serrano from Spain) dry-cured ham from Surry Farms in Surry, Virginia to be absolutely pleasing in the mouth. It also paired nicely with the wines. Many of the tasters in attendance were not familiar with the wines of Virginia and the tasting confirmed that Virginia is producing high-quality wines and the region has the potential to make world-class wines. In closing, be sure to check the Trummers On Main website for future events and if you have not dined there yet, I encourage you to make reservations soon. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is aesthetically pleasing and the restaurant has a very good wine list. Have a question about this post, friends? Great post, gotta look up that place. One question that came to mind... Was the ham salty? My hubby is from that area in VA and loves the traditional VA country ham which is extremely salty though. I wonder what that would do to the taste of the wines...
Nice post and pictures Dezel. I can smell the ham through the screen. Will have to check them out on yelp.
Hello Tina,
Both were salty, but it was not overwhelming. I have had others where the salt was overpowering. I could eat these by themselves easily; however, when you combine the warm crumbly bread and soft butter, it sort of offsets the saltiness. The wines also went well; the white wine was crisp and dry and the reds were well balanced, moderate alcohol, and medium, not bold flavors. I think that if we would have done a sweet wine or a more assertive red (i.e. tannic) that the pairing would not have gone over well. The house white would definitely work. If you visit, let me know about your experience. Also, give them a call and ask about their rush-hour specials – awesome deal! Have a good weekend.

Hi VA Blogger,
Now that you mention it, I will head over and see what the people at Yelp are saying about Trummers On Main. Let me know if you visit and have a great weekend.

Great post! Nice pics too!
This looks like my kinda place!
Hey Dezel! It was great meeting you the other night at Trummer's. Love the blog. My husband and I will defintely try some of the Va wineries you recommended. The name of the Napa hotel I mentioned that my friend stayed at was River Terrace Inn in Napa. She said that the rooms were large and nice and the location was very convenient to downtown Napa.
Hello Lisa,
Thanks so much for the info :-) I will check them out online. Great meeting you and your husband and hope to bump into you again on the VA wine trail!
Happy Sipping!
Randy, I'm sure they would love to have the Wine Whore at Trummers On Main. When you visit, it is one of those must-stops, bro!
Happy Sipping!
