Quick Sip: Bonneau 2007 Hyde Cabernet Sauvignon
Hello Friends,
Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of tuning in for another fun-filled episode of Cellars of Sonoma TV Tuesday Live. This week’s live streaming broadcast featured John Bambury of Bonneau Wines. Bonneau Winery is a small family-owned grower and wine producer in Sonoma’s Los Carneros appellation. Bonneau’s estate site, Catherine's Vineyard, is certified sustainable and planted to Chardonnay. The winery is known for Chardonnay and crafts several different styles ranging from crisp and clean to elegant and even two dessert-styled selections. For red wines, Bonneau sources fruit from some of the top vineyards in Sonoma, Napa, Amador, Dry Creek and Sonoma Coast.
Bonneau 07 Carneros Hyde Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
For this show, Dan Goderis (The Iowa Wino) and I had an opportunity to sample the Bonneau 2007 Los Carneros Hyde Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon ($60) alongside Cellars of Sonoma proprietor and host Scott Jordan and Bonneau Wine's Director of Winemaking John Bambury. Hyde Vineyard, located in Carneros – on the Napa side, is a very reputable grower and many top name California producers source fruit from them. The Bonneau 2007 Los Carneros Hyde Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon contains small amounts of Petit Verdot (adding color and structure) and is aged in 50% new French oak and 50% neutral oak barrels. In the glass, the wine exhibits a deep garnet color with plum, blackberry, and blackcurrant aromas that comingle with soft vanilla, mocha, spice, and a subtle floral perfume-like fragrance. The aromas extend to the palate with a full and round entry, generous, but not over the top fruit, fine grain tannins, moderate acidity, and a pleasant medium-length dry finish. Over the course of the evening the wine opened up nicely and paired quite well with my brisket dinner. I encourage [Chardonnay lovers in particular] to get to know John Bambury and his small-lot wines. Use the links below to learn more about Cellars of Sonoma and Bonneau Wines.
